Happy Hogmanay!

Hogmanay is the traditional Scottish new year celebration. You can read about it here. They have a huge party in Edinburgh that rivals the one in Times Square. We are spending the evening quietly at home this year. Our granddaughter is coming for a sleepover so we'll probably bake muffins and do craft projects and other stuff that 7yr olds like.

Happy Winter Solstice!

This morning (at 00:22 for those who inhabit the northern hemisphere) the sun was at its farthest point from the equator in an event known as the winter solstice. In other words, from here on in, the nights are getting shorter and the days are getting longer as we make our way headlong towards summer!

While you're waiting, why not spend some time hunting Haggis? That's right - it's time for the annual Haggis Hunt at the Scotsman! Hunting the haggis is so easy you can do it from the comfort of your own home. All you do is visit the website, browse through the haggis-cams showing parts of beautiful Scotland, London, and New York City, and if you see a haggis, just click on the "I saw a haggis" link displayed under the cam. This is a haggis in its cooked state...very tasty, especially with the traditional whisky gravy.

Do you LOVE making layouts, showing off your talents and being creative? I'm looking for a few motivated and highly creative people to work as part of a creative team showcasing my Celtic and Scottish kits and elements.

You can view some of my initial designs on this blog. I will be selling them, and much more, in the shop at www.digital-scrapbooking.org (DSO).

Requirements:
1) Creativity and knowledge of current trends and techniques
2) Post 2 or more layouts monthly, to the gallery on DSO as well as 3 others of your choice.
3) Write a short review of every free kit or element you receive.
4) Grant permission to use your layouts and reviews for advertising purposes.
5) Actively participate in both the DSO forum and Gallery (posting comments)
6) Attend crops and participate in running contests from time-to-time.

If you think you'd be interested in working with my designs, send 3 600x600 jpgs of your FAVORITE, most CREATIVE layouts to catrionamacg @ gmail.com.

The Fox Network announces a 'Firefly' online game!

After cancelling the TV series in 2002 after one way too short season and then bowing to the clamour of the fans and making a follow-on movie “Serenity,” the Fox Network seems to be getting a clue. True to their inventive nature, some ‘Browncoats’ have already set up a ‘verse in Second Life, a popular online community. Looks like the folks at Fox want to capitalize on the idea. The game is expected to launch in 2008. Read the article on Variety.

Recently, they have also begun licensing companies to sell Firefly and Serenity products instead of ignoring the fans. Could a sequel movie or the hoped for “trinity” be on the horizon? I hope so.

Are you wondering what I'm talking about? What is this "Firefly" and "Serenity" stuff anyway? Go rent the Firefly box set and the Serenity movie from your favorite source, sit down in a comfy chair and be prepared for a fantastic experience. After you have to return the DVDs, go to your favorite movie shopping source and BUY them! You won't be sorry!

I applied, and was accepted to the Mentor/Protege Program at DigiScrapDesigner.com! I looked over the names of some of the other participants and found some online friends and a lot of professional designers. I am excited and look forward to learning a lot about the digi scrap designer business.

One of my Scottish friends recently posted the poem, "My Heart's in the Highlands," by Robert Burns, on the Clan Gregor message board and it inspired me to create this soft-hued thistle paper with the poem as a transparent overlay. Christmas is for kids

Here's the perfect way to celebrate all your kids or grand kids...with a fun template you can customize. The font used is Comic Sans but it is easily changed to any font you desire. I used one from 2 Peas on my sample showing my own 6 lovely grandkids.

Happy St. Andrews Day!

St Andrew's Day, 30 November, was a date once ignored by almost everyone and barely registered on Scotland's cultural and economic radar...just an ordinary 24 hours in the Christmas run-up. But today, in an international symbol of Scottish pride never seen before, flags will fly, glasses will be drained, and people around the world will gather to celebrate Scotland's patron saint. To confirm its new status, MSPs passed a bill to make 30 November a national holiday. Read the full story on the Scotsman.

The Royal Mail has unveiled the first UK stamp to carry an image of St Andrew. Even if you're not in Scotland today, you can order a set of commemorative stamps or a first day cover online. Isn't the internet great?!?!

Scotland has two well known flags. The Royal Flag of Scotland, a red lion rampant on a yellow background, is, strictly speaking, only to be used by a reigning monarch in his or her capacity as King or Queen of Scotland. The official flag of Scotland, the Saltire, is a white cross on a blue background and is recognised by most people around the world as "the" flag of Scotland. The Saltire is more correctly known as the Cross of St. Andrew.

Here I go again – designing non-Celtic stuff! I am a big fan of the cancelled Firefly TV series and the follow-up movie, Serenity. If you have never heard of it, please click on the links to find out more!

Wishes and dreams

Do you have Scottish, Irish, or Welsh heritage? Have you always wanted to scrap those Highland Games, dancing competition, or Clan gathering photos and been unable to find just the right papers and elements? Me, too!

So. to solve this lack, I decided to make some!
