How about a Download-A-Day challenge?

You know you love 'em...you know you collect 'em...how about actually [gasp!] using 'em? To get you on the right track I'm challenging you to do a layout using pieces from a DLAD (download a day) kit from Divine Digital! The featured designers for March are Colleen Lynch and Misty Maier. The kit is called Whimsy and you can get to the forum here. Here's a preview of the first day's download.

Okay, I know you want to know what you get for completing the challenge, right? How about a brand new kit? Woo hoo! Well, not the whole kit...not right away anyway...you're gonna have to work for it!

The first thing you have to do is sign up in
Divine Digital's forum - it's free. Then go to the March 2007 DLAD link. Bookmark the page so you remember to visit every day!

Next, create a LO using the DLAD and post it in your favorite gallery. Yes, you can use images from other kits, but try to use the DLADs as much as possible. Finally, send me a link [catrionamag @ gmail.com] and I'll send you part of my new kit!

Every week during the month of March there will be another piece of the kit up for grabs - for a total of four. Don't worry, if you miss a part it will go on sale in my shop at DSO on 1 April - No Foolin! [spoiler alert!]

Here's the posting dates:
  • 1-9 Mar - part 1 (I added an extra couple of days to gather your first downloads!)
  • 10-16 Mar - part 2
  • 17-23 Mar - part 3
  • 24-30 Mar - part 4
  • 31 Mar - catch up day! If you missed a piece of the participation kit this is the day to post a last minute LO and let me know which ONE you need. You only get to pick one piece, so plan accordingly!
Now, I suppose you want a preview of the first part of the kit? Well, since it's still in production...how about a colorchip to tease you with?

Disclaimer: I am not affiliated with Divine Digital and I get no kick back...only the same DLAD files to collect that you do!

Remember, sharing files is a form of digital piracy - even free ones. Please send your friends to my blog so they can participate in this challenge and get their own free kit.

My Celebrity Look-a-Likes!

This is a fun website to play with, especially for those doing layouts for a "Book of Me." Go get a nice full face portrait of yourself in a .jpg format. If it has a neutral background you'll get more matches. My original had a dark one that only gave me 5 matches. When I replaced it with a white background I got 10. Then follow the directions to upload it and see who you match!

Here's mine...

To go to the website and find your look-a-likes, just click on the picture above.
I actually matched more people but you get to choose your favorites for the collage. Thank goodness, too...I really don't think I resemble Neil Diamond at all! LOL!

Thanks to Ruby Q's blog for this idea...it was fun!

Shed a little light on it!

Got a "bright" idea for a layout? I have a fun freebie for you. This little 2" tall transparent light bulb is perfect for those "Aha!" moments of your own or even to illustrate that funny old joke about how many [insert your favorite group here] it takes to change a light bulb! Get it here.

If you use it on a project, send me a note. I'd love to see what you do with it.

50 Wonderful Years!

I made this layout for a challenge on Ruby's blog.

For my folk's 50th anniversary all the kids and grandkids flew home for the weekend. We gathered on the beach for a family portrait. Wearing white shirts and jeans and being barefoot was my mom's idea. She had seen another picture where the people were dressed like that and she loved the idea. I think it turned out great! My oldest son was not able to be there since he was in Hawaii for the Navy. He had a friend take his picture and I Photoshopped him in.

Happy Imbolc - it's a Celtic holiday!

Today is the Celtic holiday Imbolc. It is one of the four principal festivals of the Celtic calendar. Originally dedicated to the goddess Brigid, in the Christian period it was adopted as St. Brigid's Day. In Scotland the festival is also known as Latha Fhèill Brìghde, in Ireland as Lá Fhéile Bríde, and in Wales as Gwyl Ffraed.

Imbolc is traditionally a time of weather prognostication, and the old tradition of watching to see if serpents or badgers came from their winter dens is perhaps a precursor to our modern Groundhog's Day on 2 February.

Brigid, also known as Brighid, Bríde, Brigit, Brìd; is the Goddess of poetry, healing, and smithcraft. As both goddess and saint she is also associated with holy wells, sacred flames, and healing.

Imbolc is a festival of the hearth and home, and a celebration of the lengthening days and the early signs of spring. Rituals often involve hearthfires, special foods, divination or simply watching for omens (whether performed in all seriousness or as children's games), a great deal of candles, and perhaps an outdoor bonfire if the weather permits. The lighting of candles and fires represents the return of warmth and the increasing power of the Sun over the coming months.

Here's a special freebie for you to celebrate Imbolc - an embroidered St. Brigid's cross. Read about the cross and it's history here.
Download it here.
